Chinese Law Program (Summer School)
The Summer School in Shanghai
is jointly organized by the International Exchange Center (IEC), the East
China University of Political Science and law, and Willamette University
College of Law. Since the first summer school in 1984, the IEC has
continuously hosted 23 programs, and more than 1,300 students from a variety
of American Law Schools participated the program. Participants can get five
hours credits approved by ABA.
Lectures, including Chinese Legal System, Civil Law, Criminal Law,
Foreign Trade Law, Contract Law, etc, are given by leading professors of law
in English. The Iec also offers
field trips to a criminal trial, divorce or other mediation, international
joint venture, stock exchange, prison,
office of an American law firm and Weekend excursion to Hangzhou and day excursion to Suzhou.
There will be an examination at the end of the course. Each
graduate of the program will receive a certificate of completion.
Accommodation and meals are provided on the ECUPL campus.
Chinese Law Program (Winter School)
The Winter School is jointly organised by the International
Exchange Center (IEC), East China University of Political Science and Law,
Shanghai (ECUPL)and the Centre for Asian and Pacific Law in the University of
Sydney (CAPLUS), the Faculty of Law, University of Sydney.
Since the first winter school in 1995, the IEC has continuously hosted 13
school and more than 1,100 Australian students participated the programs.
The aims of
the Winter School are:
- to provide an introduction to the Chinese legal system and Chinese laws,
including commercial law relating to foreign investment
- to encourage comparative and jurisprudential studies of specific areas of
Chinese law
It is hoped that the Winter
School will stimulate
interest in, and analysis of, Chinese community legal styles, attitudes and
structures, including traditional and imperial Chinese legal values and
processes, as significant factors in the understanding of modern Chinese law
and the legal system.
The Winter School is held on the campus of the East China
University of Political Science and Law in Shanghai, China.
Lectures are given by Chinese Professors in English. The program is
supervised by academic staff in the Faculty of Law, University
of Sydney, at least one of whom is
in residence in Shanghai
to oversee academic and other arrangements and to assist students.
Accommodation and meals are provided on the ECUPL campus.
